UPCOMING ACTORS & WRITERS EVENTS

FALL/WINTER 2011 READING SEASON

Saturday, October 22, 8 p.m. at the Rosendale Theatre

THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER

by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, directed by Mark Chmiel

Actors & Writers presents a staged reading of Kaufman & Hart's classic American comedy, which made its Broadway debut almost exactly 72 years ago and continues to delight audiences to this day. At the center of The Man Who Came to Dinner is an acerbic, wisecracking celebrity guest, Sheridan Whiteside (based on theater critic and Algonquin Round Table regular Alexander Woollcott), who, due to an injury sustained on the doorstep of his hosts, cannot leave their home. The house is quickly turned upside down by a revolving door of people bearing lavish gifts, making selfish demands, delivering name-dropping telegrams, and making transatlantic phone calls, along with an endless parade of Hollywood stars. The large cast features many members of Actors & Writers and special guests.

House opens at 7:30 p.m. Parking is available behind the theater. Admission for A&W events is technically free, but generous donations are accepted and appreciated. For driving directions and more information: www.rosendaletheatre.org

IMPROV NATION

Directed by Denny Dillon

They're back for a second smash evening at Shadowland! Broadway veteran and SNL alumna Denny Dillon helms Improv Nation, a fearless troupe of gibberish talkers, conceptual tightrope walkers, off-the-cuff scene-makers, and ridiculous risk takers. The daredevil ensemble of Dillon, Jason Downs, Sophia Raab Downs, Davis Hall, Mikhail Horowitz, Nicole Quinn, and David Smilow works without a script, spinning detailed, delightful, and wildly hilarious scenes out of theatrical thin air.
